Our journey towards sustainability is guided by the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). We prioritize collaboration with farmers, local communities, and customers, ensuring that food safety is never compromised.
In the 2020-21 fiscal year, over 1 million farming families benefited from our HerbSecure program. This initiative highlights our commitment to empowering local farmers, as we source herbs from 250+ certified suppliers and support over 400 farmers cultivating on more than 560 hectares. By investing in these communities, we are not just creating a supply chain but building a network of sustainable livelihoods that contribute to food safety.
Responsible Operations: A Commitment to Carbon Neutrality
One of our key commitments is to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030. Here are some of the strides we have made toward that goal:
- We’ve installed 400 kW rooftop solar panels to embrace renewable energy.
- We use Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) in our hammer mill and pulverizer to improve energy efficiency.
- We are consistently planting more trees to create a significant green cover at our Anniyalam site.
- Every year we recycle 25 tons of plastic.
- Our Zero Waste to Landfill initiative diverts 68 MT of waste per year, including used oil, returned goods, and fine dust, from landfills.
- Through the 3 R technique (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), we target reducing landfill waste by 25%.
- We have achieved a 10% reduction in Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) year over year.
- We’ve invested in renewable energy sources, such as solar panels and alternative-fuel-powered boilers, to cut down our carbon footprint.
- We are aiming for a 5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2026.
- 60% of our total power consumption comes from green energy sources.
Anniyalam – An Eco-Friendly Manufacturing Facility
Our Anniyalam facility exemplifies our commitment to sustainability through a range of thoughtful design and construction choices. We prioritize building materials that are reused, recycled, biodegradable, or carbon-storing, contributing to a lower environmental footprint. While we harness the benefits of renewable energy, our facility features rooftop solar panels and energy-efficient technologies, which significantly reduce emissions.
Temperature control is achieved through advanced insulation techniques, and double-paned windows, creating a comfortable indoor climate year-round. Energy efficiency is further enhanced by incorporating natural lighting and ventilation, smart meters, and LED lights.
We are deeply committed to water conservation. Our Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system at our effluent Anniyalam plant, with a capacity of 23 KL water per day, ensures that no wastewater leaves our premises. Additionally, we have four rainwater conservation pits to capture rainwater for factory use, significantly reducing our reliance on external water sources.
The facility also adds social and cultural value by ensuring accessibility, featuring local art and design elements, and providing modular spaces for community events. Our landscape includes biodiversity while promoting a healthier ecosystem. Through these initiatives, our Anniyalam facility not only embodies sustainable practices but also enriches the community and environment around us.
Our Anniyalam facility is designed to prioritize sustainability at every level. The building uses natural lighting and ventilation to enhance energy efficiency, complemented by motion-sensor energy-saving fittings. Instead of traditional paint, the walls are cemented, avoiding the use of potentially harmful chemicals and contributing to a healthier environment.
The facility also includes large open spaces that support biodiversity and improve air quality. By using sustainable construction materials, we’ve minimized our environmental footprint while creating a greener, healthier workplace.
Sustainable Sourcing
We take pride in sustainably sourcing our ingredients, ensuring minimal environmental impact and maximum product quality. For instance, our products contain amla, which we dry naturally under the sun, rather than using machinery. This eco-friendly approach not only lowers energy consumption but also preserves the integrity and potency of the amla, ensuring consistent, optimal results. By embracing such sustainable practices, we reduce costs while maintaining the highest standards of quality, all without compromising on our commitment to nature.
